It’s about the rush of a new idea, the laughter of a shared scene, and the magic of creating something from nothing. Come find your ensemble.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Theater, and more. Improv Comedy
CAMP LOCATION: We are located in the Hope Artiste Village, a converted industrial mill in Pawtucket. Please visit our website for photos of our theater, and more information.
CAMP FACILITIES: We have a black box theater with a stage and professional lights and sound.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: KISMET SUMMER IMPROV-O-RAMA (ages 8-10): For the young creators who are always ready with a punchline, this week is a deep dive into the fast-paced world of short-form improv.
Whether they are total beginners or seasoned hams, this session gives kids everything they need to launch their creativity and have a blast on stage.
Inspired by the energy of Dropout’s "Make Some Noise," students will master the "rules" of comedy that build confidence and quick-thinking skills. It’s a supportive environment where every kid learns how to make themselves and their teammates look like stars.
KISMET SUMMER SCENE MACHINE (ages 11-13): Middle school is an incredible age for improv because students are ready to dive into the mechanics behind what’s funny.
No prior experience is necessary; we provide the blueprint and the tools to jumpstart every student's improv brain from day one.
This intensive explores the sweet spot where high-energy group play meets the precision of the comedic scene. Students will spend the week mastering the inner workings of improv -- active listening and total support -- building the skills needed to create hilarious characters and comedic scenes together.
KISMET SUMMER EXPERIMENTAL RIOT (ages 14-17): For high schoolers ready to sharpen their comedic craft, this intensive explores the intersection of theatrical bravery and bold, collaborative storytelling.
No experience? No problem. We provide the tools and the structure to help everyone find their voice and build a fantastic show from scratch.
Students will sharpen their narrative intuition, learning how to create stories with intention, connect with the ensemble, and take collective leadership of the stage. It is a week of extreme creativity and discovering how to build a full world from a single suggestion.
Our staff: are seasoned improvisors who are great teachers. They have all have years of experience working with young people to help them learn while having fun. Students will get lots of individualized attention, because we'll keep the groups small and have multiple teachers for each group.
Philosophy: At Kismet Improv, we believe that improv is for everyone. Kismet is Pawtucket’s hub for live comedy, built on a deeply held commitment to inclusion and the art of spontaneous creation. We pair a welcoming, ego-free community with a high standard for the craft. We believe that bold experimentation thrives when it’s backed by artistic discipline, and we’re here to provide the tools for every voice to reach its full potential.
Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned pro, you’ll find a home here. Kismet is a community where every background and identity is welcomed, celebrated, and vital to the work we do. We meet every student where they are, prioritizing a supportive environment that values theatrical bravery and collective trust.
Kismet Improv is committed to the physical, mental and emotional well-being of our students, performers, teachers and community members.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We have shows at Kismet Improv on Thursday-Saturday. We also offer improv comedy classes for adults running year-round. Our comedy is generally in the PG-13 realm, and adult classes are for people ages 18 and up.
OTHER CAMP INFO: Inclusion & Safety: We are committed to a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. At Kismet, we believe every voice belongs on our stage.
What to Wear: Please wear comfortable clothes and sneakers that allow for easy movement on stage (no flip-flops, please!).
Food & Safety: Kismet is a Nut-Aware space. Please pack a nut-free lunch and water bottle for your child. To keep everyone safe, we maintain a strict "no-sharing" food policy.
